A Valentine’s Day to remember as Pat and Carl Lindsley celebrate 65 Years of love at The Hall care Home

Love was truly in the air at The Hall care home in Thornton le Dale as residents Patricia and Carl Lindsley celebrated their 65th Valentine’s Day together.

To honour their love story, the care home arranged a private lunch for the couple, creating a special moment for them to reminisce about their journey together, which began nearly seven decades ago.

The couple’s love story began when Pat, formerly Patricia Knaggs, attended typing night classes in Guisborough. There, she became close friends with Anita Lindsley, who played Cupid by introducing Pat to her brother, Carl, at a New Year’s dance at Saltburn Spa in 1956. Sparks flew, and the two embarked on three years of courtship as Carl pursued his studies in languages.

Pat, having been taught to drive by her father, would take Carl on outings around the region, from the scenic Apple Garth in Guisborough to picnics on the North York Moors. Their romance blossomed, and in December 1959, they were married at St Nicholas Church in Guisborough, beginning a life filled with love and laughter.

Their love grew even stronger with the arrival of their son, Andrew, in 1960, followed by their daughter, Jackie, in 1965. Over the years, their family expanded to include two grandsons and two great-grandsons.

Diane Hagan, manager at The Hall said: “It was lovely to see both Pat and Carl share such a special date together at The Hall.
“We’re very happy to be part of their journey as a couple and look forward to creating more memories with them during their time at The Hall.”

Asked about their secret to a long and successful marriage, both Pat and Carl said: “Thinking of each other, always being mindful of each other's needs, making sacrifices when necessary, and choosing to live with love.”
